• Applied Clinical Research - clinical and genetic research aimed at relating disease development and progression with risk factors and treatment responses.

• Gene Function and Therapies - research aimed at defining gene dysfunction and translating this to better diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes.

There are synergies, linkages and overlaps between these fields with gene mapping/identification studies being dependent on access to good clinical information and samples, and gene function/therapy studies being dependent on gene identification and clinical linkages.
